The wound that aches most came from someone who knew exactly where to place it. David knew that ache. In Psalm 55 he writes that an enemy's insult he could have carried, but this was a companion, a familiar friend, someone who had walked beside him to the house of God. Watch what he does with the wound. He does not pretend it away, and he does not drink the poison of revenge. He casts it on the Lord, and the word carries the force of a hurl, a throwing with the whole body. Betrayal hands you a ledger of what they owe, a weight you were never built to carry. Throw it. Justice belongs to God, and so does the promise underneath you: "he shall sustain thee."

A prayer for this moment
Lord, You know exactly what they did. I cast this whole weight (the hurt, the anger, the ledger) onto You. Sustain me, and keep my heart from turning bitter. Amen.
