Caring for Someone
For when you feel: caregiver, aging parents, exhausted from caring, sandwich generation
Even to your old age, I will be the same, and I will bear you up when you turn gray. I have made you, and I will carry you; I will sustain you and deliver you.
Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

You fill the pill organizer again, answer the same question again, and almost nobody sees it. Caregiving is love doing manual labor, and it is often invisible and lonely. Isaiah carries a word for the one you care for. God says "even to hoar hairs will I carry you," which means your carrying happens inside His carrying; you are the visible hands of a faithfulness no one can see. Paul carries a word for you. He tells the weary not to give up well doing precisely because good work exhausts, and then he hangs a promise on the far end of it: "in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." So accept the help when it comes, and rest without guilt. The One who carries them is carrying the carrier too.

A prayer for this moment
Lord, I'm tired from loving well. Carry the one I care for, carry me too, and renew my strength for one more faithful day. Amen.
