When It's Hard · Fear & Worry

Anxiety & Worry

For when you feel: anxious, worrying, overthinking, spiraling, restless mind

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6–7 · BSB

The MinuteSermon

It is late, and the same worry has come back around again, the mortgage or the test result or the text they have not answered. Notice what Paul does not tell you. He never says your worries are silly, or that strong faith never trembles. He says to carry them somewhere. In every thing, he writes, "let your requests be made known unto God." Worry rehearses the problem over and over, but prayer relocates it. And the promise is not that everything resolves by morning. The promise is a guard, a peace that "passeth all understanding" standing watch over your heart and mind like a sentry at the gate. You do not have to understand your way to peace tonight. You only have to hand it over.

A prayer for this moment

Father, I hand You the things I keep picking back up. Stand guard over my heart and my mind tonight, and teach me to trade rehearsing for asking. Amen.
