When It's Hard · Doubt & Distance
God Feels Far Away
For when you feel: silence, dry season, can't feel God, spiritual desert
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.
The MinuteSermon
You pray and the room stays quiet. You remember when worship felt alive, and the remembering only sharpens the distance. The man who wrote Psalm 42 knew that ache, tears for food, God seemingly gone, so if your prayers feel like they hit the ceiling, you are standing inside a psalm, not a failure. Watch what he does next. He turns and talks to his own soul, "Why art thou cast down?" and answers himself with a command, "hope thou in God," anchored in a stubborn future tense: "I shall yet praise him." Feelings are weather. God is climate, and the sun hidden from view has never once been the sun gone. So keep the appointments, read, pray, gather, not to earn His return but because dry-season faithfulness runs deepest, and He is nearer than the silence suggests.

A prayer for this moment
God, I can't feel You, but I'm speaking to You anyway, which means I still believe You're listening. Hope, my soul. I shall yet praise Him. Amen.
