For Someone Else

For Someone Who Is Sick

For when you feel: friend in hospital, praying for healing, someone I love is ill

Beloved, I pray that in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers.

The phone update comes, and there is nothing you can do with it. Someone you love is sick, and helplessness moves in where the doctors will not let you follow. But prayer has no visiting hours. Four friends once tore open a roof to lower a paralyzed man to Jesus, and the Gospel notes that Jesus saw their faith, the faith of the carriers. Be a roof-opener. Pray boldly for healing, since God still heals, through medicine and beyond it, and pray wide the way John did, for the body and the soul together. Then let your prayers grow hands: the ride, the meal, the text that expects no reply. You cannot carry their illness. You can carry them, every day, to the feet of the Healer.

Lord Jesus, Healer, I lift up the one I love. Restore their body, guard their spirit, guide every caregiver, and count my faith for them today. Amen.
