The memory arrives without knocking, and you wince. Here is a strange comfort from the map. Walk north long enough and you will eventually be heading south over the pole, but walk east and you will never once be going west. That is the geometry God chose for forgiven sin: "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." So why does shame still visit? Guilt says I did something wrong, and confession resolves that. Shame says I am something wrong, and that is a lie with your accuser's fingerprints on it. "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." When the memory knocks again, you do not have to reopen a closed case. Read the verdict aloud instead.

A prayer for this moment
Father, You've removed my sin farther than I can chase it. When shame comes calling, teach me to answer with Your verdict, not my record. Amen.
