Feeling Not Enough

For when you feel: inadequate, imposter, everyone's better, falling short

But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.

You sit in the room half convinced that everyone else belongs there and you slipped in by mistake. Paul knew a weakness like that. He asked God three separate times to take it away, and the answer was no, and then the answer was better than yes. "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." Notice what God did not say. He did not say you are sufficient, which is the self-help version, the one that collapses on a bad day. He said His grace is, and the grace never runs out, so you plus grace equals enough every single time. Strength made perfect in weakness means your inadequacy is the very opening His power prefers. You were never supposed to be self-sufficient. Nobody is. Bring the weakness, and let Him bring the strength.

A prayer for this moment

Lord, I run out: of ability, of confidence, of me. Be strong exactly where I'm not, and let Your sufficiency be the thing people see. Amen.
