When It's Hard · Loneliness

Single & Struggling With It

For when you feel: still single, everyone's getting married, waiting for a spouse

Whom have I in heaven but You? And on earth I desire no one besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:25–26 · BSB

The MinuteSermon

Another wedding invitation on the counter, another kind voice asking if there is any news, another evening in a quiet apartment. Scripture does not hand singleness a pity card, and it does not dismiss the ache either. It hands it dignity. When the psalmist calls God "my portion for ever," he is using inheritance language; the deepest allotment of your life is not pending anyone's proposal, because it is already deeded to you in full. The longing itself is not wrong. Bring it to God unedited, the way Hannah poured out her heart. But hear this clearly. Your life has not failed to start. You are not sitting in the waiting room of your story. You are in the story, and the central Character is already, fully, permanently yours.

A prayer for this moment

Lord, You know what I long for. I bring it to You honestly, and I take You as my portion today, not someday. Fill this life full. Amen.
