Waiting on God / Unanswered Prayer
For when you feel: how long, God is silent, still praying, no answer yet
Still I am certain to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD!
The MinuteSermon
You have prayed the same prayer so many times the words have worn smooth. David knew that place. He says plainly that he would have fainted unless he had believed to see "the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living." Notice what held him up. It was not an answer, because the answer had not come yet. It was the conviction that God's goodness would show up here, in this life, in time, and not only in heaven someday. Waiting on the Lord is not passive; the Hebrew word carries the tension of a rope pulled taut, hope under load. And a promise rides alongside the command: "he shall strengthen thine heart" while you wait, not only after. The answer is coming. The strength is already here.

A prayer for this moment
Lord, I've prayed this so long. Strengthen my heart in the meantime, and let me see Your goodness in the land of the living. Amen.
