When It's Good
Wedding & Anniversary
For when you feel: getting married, anniversary today, celebrating our marriage
And though one may be overpowered, two can resist. Moreover, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
The MinuteSermon
Stand at the front of any wedding and the math seems obvious: two is stronger than one. But the old preacher counts to three. "A threefold cord is not quickly broken," and the threefold cord is the ancient picture of a marriage with God braided through the middle of it, a third strand neither of you supplies. On a wedding day that is a charge. On an anniversary it is a testimony, because you already know which years would have frayed a two-strand rope. So celebrate loudly today. Thank God for the specific person beside you, and for the ordinary faithfulness between the milestones. Then re-braid on purpose and pray together tonight, even for thirty seconds. Cords stay strong the way they were wound, strand by strand, with God in the middle.

A prayer for this moment
Lord, be the third strand in this marriage, today and every ordinary day after. Thank You for the one beside me. Braid us tighter with the years. Amen.
